Mela Sang Sakhi Sarwar, a beautiful combination of cultural colors

Arshad Farooq Butt

In connection with the annual Urs celebrations of the great Sufi saint of the subcontinent, Syed Ahmad Sultan alias Hazrat Sakhi Sarwar, located in Dera Ghazi Khan District of Punjab, a large number of pilgrims from different regions came to the shrine in caravans. The journey starts a month and a half ago and stops at several places along the way.

A festival is held in the area where the pilgrims camp, which is known as “Mela Sang Sakhi Sarwar”. According to some traditions, this milestone is held wherever Hazrat Sakhi Sarwar stayed. For this reason, it is also known as the “Festival of Footsteps”. The festival, which is held in different places, continues till Urs Mubarak.
